Hello lovelies! I'm having a blast on this rainy Monday. For some reason I find it easier to work when it's raining outside (and I'm sitting by a window getting to see and hear it!) It's getting pretty wet here in Orange County, and I can't wait to see what all this rain does for our beautiful foothills. Nothing is better than seeing them nice and green instead of the usual California brown, ha.
You might be tired of hearing about 2019 at this point, but I have REALLY been feeling like this year is going to be the year I make a ton of positive self changes. I admittedly have a lot of "bad habits" that I'm trying to really get under control this year. A few examples are mindless phone scrolling, especially while putting off something I’m supposed to be doing, letting my room get messy with clothes I've taken off hangers and not put back up, and acting like I’m super healthy while actually not getting some of my bad eating habits under control.
I made a lot of little resolutions to myself this year, and most have to do with cleansing my mind and getting rid of anxiety by keeping a clean physical space and headspace.
These are some of the things I'm committing to doing to stay healthy and happy this year, and ways you can too!
1. Declutter your space.
Having a cluttered space makes me so anxious, but I'm bad at cleaning (i.e. lazy, and bad at getting rid of things). If you need motivation for this, just watch The Art of Tidying Up on Netflix- instant inspiration!
2. Try yoga or meditation to relax.
I've recently tried yoga both at home and with a class, and I want to keep up with it. I've also been hearing how much meditation helps people with anxiety!
3. Turn off your phone for a while.
I hate that instead of using my time to be useful or productive, I default to pulling out my phone. All that screen time also gives me a headache and hurts my eyes, so I really need to be more mindful of this. I want to be present in the moment this year!
4. Read more books.
I used to be an avid reader as a child/teenager, but dropped off when I went to college. I want to get back into it, especially reading in down time instead of using my phone!
5. Try something new.
I'm really into having new experiences! I made a list of all the things I did for the first time last year, and it was really awesome. It helps me feel I'm growing as a person. I'm planning to do even more this year!
6. Eat your colors in veggies every day.
I'm really bad at eating vegetables, because I really don't like them that much. Definitely something I want to learn to love!
7. Go to bed early to get enough sleep every night.
I'm really bad at actually going to sleep, even if I'm tired. I'd rather scroll Instagram or watch another episode on Netflix! Sleep is SO important for our health, and I want to be a person who wakes up with motivation to seize the day!
8. Focus more on things you love, instead of your phone.
I want to get back to writing and making art as much as possible!
9. Go outside more. There's a great big beautiful California world out there! I'm surrounded by hiking, the beach, and just beautiful nature. Let's out there and soak up the sun this year! ☀️
These photos were taken at Stafford's Chocolates in Porterville by my brilliant bestie! Check out her website here: https://alyssagriggphotography.pixieset.com/ and her Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/alyssagriggphotography/.
If you live in Pville you know that Stafford's is the cutest coffee shop (and cutest place to go in general) in town! If you've never been, you're missing out. It's located on Main Street- go drop in for a visit, or look at their website here!
Alyssa also gifted me these Free People flats (that she found at Marshall's!!!!!!!) and they're my new prized possession! 😍
The jacket that I'm wearing is a vintage Levi's denim and sherpa lined jacket that I found in my mom's closet (her and my dad used to have matching ones, so cute!!) My white tee is my FAVE and it's only $10 right now at Cotton On! My jeans are Jamie Moto jeans from Topshop (but here's a secret: I thrifted them for only $10 at Uptown Cheapskate!) Check those consignment shops and Marshall's, girls!!
